Description

Dear Stan developers,

In the rstan (2.19.2) installation-from-source page for Windows when it comes to installing Rtools 3.5 it says:

Note that it is NOT necessary to change the path anymore.

Unfortunately, on my system (Windows 10) this is not true and the paths should be added. It took me a good part of the day to find the problem.

Research direction

Start with the linked RStan wiki page's “Download and install Rtools” section for Rtools 3.5 and compare its Windows 10 path guidance with the reported installation behavior. Update the documentation so the path requirement is accurate, then verify that the installation instructions clearly describe the expected setup.
