Description

Part of https://github.com/stackabletech/issues/issues/321

This is a collection of ideas for a monitoring dashboard for HDFS:

  • See if there are metrics on the utilized DFS Handlers (NameNode & DataNode) and alert if they are constantly pegged (dfs.datanode.handler.count)

Research direction

Start by reviewing parent issue #321 and the HDFS monitoring requirements described here, focusing on the dfs.datanode.handler.count metric for NameNode and DataNode handlers. Done would require a defined monitoring dashboard that shows handler utilization and alerts when handlers remain constantly pegged.
