Description

STAC Extension for describing energy generation and storage entities and their associated data (e.g. time series).

The extension provides metadata fields for:

• Entity identification and hierarchy: entity name, entity type, group/facility references, OSM IDs, and external IDs
• Technology / fuel characterization: primary fuel type, fuel subtype, and hybrid fuel compositions
• Hybrid systems: support for multiple fuel types and associated fractional shares
• Output metadata: generation capacity, storage power, and storage capacity
• Operational metadata: operator, status and measurement type

The extension is intended for Items representing energy entities (such as individual units, sub-facility groups, facilities, portfolios, or regional aggregations) via properties. It can also be used to describe Collections of energy entities through top-level metadata and/or summaries.

Example uses cases include:

• a single wind turbine Item
• a battery block Item
• a hybrid facility Item
• a homogeneous wind park Collection
• a heterogeneous country-scale Collection

Standards / Data Alignment

The extension is designed to align with common energy-system metadata concepts and identifier systems, including OpenStreetMap (OSM), Global Power Plant Database, and Energy Identification Code IDs.
