Adam B. opened DATAREST-1438 and commented

We have a controller marked as @BasePathAwareController. Returned entities from this controller throw "failed to lazily initialize a collection" when serializing joined collections even when wrapped in Resources.

If we switch the same method to be in a @RepositoryRestController then the entities serialize just fine
