John Butler opened DATAMONGO-1060 and commented

@Timestamp allows for the ability to control position in the DBObject. However, it does not allow for the assignment of fields BEFORE the "_class" field. This is an issue WRT inserting an empty BSONTimestamp. See the following for additional information...
