Research direction
Start in electrum/bitcoin.py at base_decode and DecodeBase58Check, then trace the signMessage path through qewallet.py, wallet.py, keystore.py, and bip32.py. Determine why the affected signing and imported or old Ledger wallet flows pass a value containing character 43 to Base58 decoding. Done requires a confirmed cause and verified handling for the reported signing failures.
