Description
On Windows 10 I'm trying to setup a standard (single key) wallet with a Ledger Nano S. No matter what I get one of two errors:
- a hang at the "please wait" screen (I've waited over 5 minutes, it does nothing)
- "Exception: Invalid channel"
I have tried with "browser support" on the Ledger device both on and off. Using the latest 1.3.1 Ledger firmware and Bitcoin app, and latest release Electrum (easy install)
EDIT: Also same "invalid channel" error on OSX

Research direction
Start by reproducing standard-wallet initialization with a Ledger Nano S on Windows 10 and macOS, testing the reported browser-support settings. Compare the hang at the “please wait” screen with the “Exception: Invalid channel” failure; done means the wallet initializes successfully without either error.
