Description

Background

  • The first decision taken by the Cryptography Group was to consider what later became pqcClass an ortogonal property to cryptoClass and cryptoSDubClass
  • The following decision was to introduce pqcClass as property. #73

The algorithms being discussed to be added to the list or added to the PQC classification (they are already on the list) are: ML-KEM, ML-DSA, SLH-DSA , FN-DSA, HQC, Classic McEliece, BIKE , MAYO , SQIsign and FAEST

Rationale

  • The following step will be to introduce the parameters that are not on the list already because they only affect to PQC algorithms.
  • Will PQC Algorithm parameters be described as classic ones?

Description

A description of the parameters will be needed if PQC parameters will be describe in a different way than classic ones. The values will be required.

Describe each parameter that will be used, their cardinality and potential values not the others. We will only describe those incorporated to the list. The others will be described when a contributor brings a new algorithm and request to add it to an algorithm

Actions

  • Take a decision on how the parameters will be structured?
    • In the same way that the classic ones
    • In a different way
  • Create a proposal including:
    • the new parameters
    • description of each one of them
    • Cardinality
    • Values
  • Reach out consensus on the proposal within the Cryptography Group
  • Create a PR
  • Review it, approve it and merge it

DoD

  • Link to the proposal:
  • Link to the PR:
  • Link to the properties and parameters description file, including the new parameters

  3. Fork the repository and make your change on a branch.
  4. Open a pull request that references the issue number.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing classic parameter structure and the properties and parameters description file referenced in the issue. Decide whether PQC parameters follow the classic format, then prepare a proposal covering each parameter's description, cardinality, and values. Done means the Cryptography Group reaches consensus and the proposal and resulting PR are linked.
