Description
As far as I can tell, the user's home directory would then default to /home/root. Would it be sensible to change it to root if the name matches? Maybe that is something downstream users should take care of.

Research direction
The issue discusses the home-directory default for a user named root, but it mentions no files, tests, or entry points. First clarify whether the project should change this behavior or leave it to downstream users; done would require an agreed expected path and corresponding implementation scope.
