Description
Maybe make it possible to use https://github.com/JaidedAI/EasyOCR? Instead of tesseract it is a "AI" /ML based OCR AFAIK.
It is e.g. used by https://github.com/ocrmypdf/OCRmyPDF-EasyOCR

Research direction
The issue names EasyOCR and the existing Tesseract-based OCR approach but does not identify files, tests, or an entry point. Start by locating the current OCR integration and reviewing the linked EasyOCR and OCRmyPDF-EasyOCR projects; done would mean an optional EasyOCR path is defined and validated alongside the existing option.
