Description
I'm working on the possibility of use Datasette with other file formats that aren't SQLite, like files with PyTables format.
In order to accomplish that, I've started a fork for decoupling the code related with SQLite and putting it in an external connector to allow future connectors for a lot of file formats.
It'd be nice if you could look at it and suggest improvements for a possible PR.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the linked fork's feature/db-type-plugin branch and comparing its SQLite-related changes with the Datasette repository. Done would be a maintainer-approved approach, with a focused pull request or documented plan for separating SQLite support and enabling other file-format connectors.
