Description
As reported by @amaurea, qpoint doesn't seem to handle el > 90 totally cleanly -- likely due to refraction correction.
We should assess how this affects so3g usage and guard against it (and notify upstream if warranted).

Research direction
Trace how so3g uses qpoint and reproduce the reported behavior for elevations above 90 degrees, including the possible refraction-correction effect. Determine the impact on so3g usage, add an appropriate guard if needed, and decide whether the upstream qpoint project should be notified.
