Description
As part of creating a minimal test suite for SILNLP, a smoke test is needed for nmt/test.py. It should be able to be run quickly before submitting a PR and should focus on testing behavior specific to test.py, that is, behavior that is not already covered by the experiment.py smoke test.

Research direction
Start by reading nmt/test.py and the existing experiment.py smoke test to understand the testing conventions and which behavior is already covered. Add a quick-running smoke test focused on test.py-specific behavior, then run the relevant smoke-test command to confirm it passes before a PR.
