Description

We have some quite long glossary items for fairly common terms. Paratext has helpfully marked all occurrences of key terms with \w...\w*. Including the whole glossary item as a footnote on every occurrence doesn't work very well (I see a page with John 18-19 on it with something like 6 footnotes for Pilate, 4 for kingdom....).
It might, however, be useful to include one footnote for each term in the publication.

Of course there's the related issue of de-duplicating footnotes on the same page, but that's not going to be very easy.

Research direction

Start by tracing how Paratext glossary markers such as \w...\w* become footnotes in the XeTeX-based typesetting flow. The change is done when each glossary term contributes one footnote for the publication, while the issue's separate same-page de-duplication concern remains distinct.
