after "it does not solve the not knowing" -- the SyncThing GUI does show the degree of completion of updating each folder tree. See image in the document.
"no description of what is inside" is no longer correct. All shared folders now come with short descriptions of their contents.
"the user should be able to point it somewhere else" -- the SyncThing GUI does allow that as we are selecting folders to sync.
"opening folders until you hit it" -- no, each of the main folders that people would select contains the file LangTechDepotFoles.txt, which contains such a list.
