Description

Bug description

The video call overlay displays the wrong content - either buttons for the call controls (hang up, mute etc) which block seeing the other individual on the video call.

Steps to reproduce
  • Start a video call
  • Minimize Signal to start the video overlay

Actual result: Overlay is covered by either your video instead of the other participants, and/or call control buttons.

Expected result: You see the other participants video unimpeded by anything else.

Screenshots

None, though can provide if absolutely necessary

Device info

Device: Pixel 3a

Research direction

Start by reproducing the overlay behavior on the reported Pixel 3a, Android 12, and Signal 5.50.2 setup, then inspect the linked debug log for the video-call overlay entry point. Done means the minimized call shows the other participant's video without the local video or call-control buttons obscuring it.
