Description
As noted in #748, requests from the frontend now have some similar boilerplate. Some request handling functions could help consolidate that and possibly make it simpler to implement related issues like #749 and #750 (and possibly #660).

Research direction
Start by reading issue #748 and the related issues #749, #750, and possibly #660 to identify the repeated frontend request-handling boilerplate. Locate the affected request entry points, then define shared helpers that consolidate the common handling and support the related cases.
