Description
From @xrow in #842:
I have a wish to this pull. It is possible to autodetect if this a components project by reading the checkbox via api? Of course the config flag shall be present with true false being autodetected if not set. The default value could be maybe null or auto.

Research direction
Review the pull request context in #842 and the related issue #822 first, then locate the existing components-project configuration and GitLab API integration. Done should mean that an unset flag autodetects the project from the GitLab checkbox while explicit true or false values remain authoritative.
