Description
Not sure if feasible or the servers only know LI of something when they "see it", but one thing that gives me pause when decorating is: I select multiple objects, see their total LI, click 'link' to save impact in my home, watch as that number goes UP.
Sometimes even two small and close up objects can grow in LI after linking instead of the expected behavior, and there is no way (that I know of) to predict this. When they are simple things it's easy to unlink them back, but if they are complex stuff made of a lot of smaller things each (when this .. 'feature'.. mostly happens), it becomes a nightmare to untangle, or delete and reconfigure, or deal with the loss of prims and move on.
It would be really great to have a guiding compass on this one.

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Read the linked Canny feature request first, then locate the viewer's object-linking and land-impact behavior. Done means users can see the expected final LI before linking rezzed items.
