Description

1 - Go somewhere busy with a lot of meshes texture.

2 - Alt tab or simply don't move for a minute.

3 - Observe a kaleidoscope of chaos.

Textures will begin to unload and seemingly start applying random wrong textures to random meshes and avatars. Different textures seem randomly assigned each time you alt tab, which is kinda funky to look at but ultimately not desired and a show stopper for being able to look at anything in SL properly.

Going to quiet sims the issue appears to stop and textures are assigned correctly. In quiet low mesh/texture use areas when alt tabbing the textures appear to downgrade and become a little blurry correctly (though personally I don't like this feature).

For me this bug replaced the grey, textures not loading slowly or at all bug.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in a busy mesh- and texture-heavy location using the listed Windows, Intel Arc A770, and viewer environment, then compare it with a quiet region. Verify that alt-tabbing or waiting no longer assigns textures to the wrong meshes or avatars, while expected texture unloading and reloading remains correct.
