Description

With https://github.com/scverse/napari-spatialdata/pull/304, the color for categorical dataframe columns is specified via other dataframe columns, while the color for categorical obs is specified in the table (in .uns). Do we want to keep this behavior or to also allow for categorical dataframe columns to be annotated by tables?

I prefer to keep things like this because it maintains "data locality", but opening the conversation here.

Research direction

Start by reviewing pull request #304 and the issue’s discussion of categorical dataframe columns, categorical obs, and table annotations in .uns. Determine whether the project should preserve data locality or support table-based annotations for dataframe columns; the issue is complete only after that behavior is decided and documented or implemented.
