Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in the scratch-blocks playground on Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge and compare the workspace background with the expected light grey. Trace the playground's workspace styling to find the browser-specific cause; done means the workspace renders light grey in Edge without breaking the existing appearance elsewhere.
