Research direction

Start by finding the sbteclipse code that generates .settings/org.scala-ide.sdt.core.prefs for Eclipse projects, then inspect how the project's Scala version is obtained. Done means generated preferences include scala.compiler.additionalParams with the matching -Xsource version and scala.compiler.installation, as shown for Scala 2.10.
