Description
When I added a Kubernetes cluster I received an error 500 - see attached screenshots. The issue seems to be related to Ruby version used in docker image - https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/42257. I use docker image sameersbn/gitlab:10.6.1 with Ruby 2.3.6p384, but I had the same issue with previous image versions (10.5.6, 10.5.5, 10.5.1).

Research direction
Reproduce the failure while adding an existing Kubernetes cluster using the reported sameersbn/gitlab:10.6.1 image and compare it with versions 10.5.6, 10.5.5, and 10.5.1. Start with the attached error and production.log screenshots, then read GitLab issue 42257; done means identifying the cause of the HTTP 500 and confirming a fix or documented limitation.
