Description

For people running GitLab and Registry behind a load balancer with SSL termination it would be great to support running registry without HTTPS, only HTTPS. This was already fixed in GitLab, see here and here.

My name suggestion for the environment variable is GITLAB_REGISTRY_HTTPS.

Research direction

Start by tracing how existing GITLAB_* environment variables configure the GitLab registry and review the linked GitLab issue and merge request for the intended behavior. Done means GITLAB_REGISTRY_HTTPS can configure a registry behind SSL termination to run without its own HTTPS, with the relevant configuration checks or tests passing.
