Description

Probably due to how the ID is generated (starting from serial number or mac address), the ID doesn't change after formatting and reinstalling.
As such, the computer name is retained.
The problem is easily solved by deleting the device so that the new name is used at next contact, but since mass deletion is not available, it can be cumbersome when you have many devices.

Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by tracing device ID generation and how stored computer names are reconciled when a device contacts the server after formatting and reinstalling. Done means the renamed computer receives its new name without manual deletion, with behavior verified for the reported scenario.
