Research direction

Start by reading implementation issue #144289 and the deref_mut_methods feature-gate context. The tracking issue names OsString::as_mut_os_str and PathBuf::as_mut_path, but implementation is already tracked separately. Done requires completing implementation, the final comment period, and stabilization steps listed here.
