Description

u64 is a good default type for the cursor position, but it's often an overkill on 32-bit architectures.
Cursors over in-memory buffers should do fine with usize, and for small buffers u32 would provide better performance.

Research direction

The issue concerns std::io::Cursor and changing its position type from a fixed u64 to a type parameter. Start by reviewing the Rust RFC process and the current Cursor API; a complete proposal should define the parameter and default, and explain the 32-bit and small-buffer use cases.
