Research direction

The issue links to #324 but names no files, tests, or concrete change. Start by reading #324 and the existing JSONPath-style value-access behavior in config-rs; clarify the intended semantics and acceptance tests before implementation. Done means the future access behavior and its verification are explicitly defined.
