Description

https://crates.io/crates/utf8parse last release is 0.2.2 , and it is no longer in the repo https://github.com/alacritty/vte

I started a discussion at https://github.com/alacritty/vte/pull/122#issuecomment-2600336800 , and a maintainer there indicates there is a willingness to re-host it in that org. However maybe maintenance of it would be better in the @rust-cli org , or an alternative is found.

Note that https://github.com/rust-cli/anstyle/pull/219 by @mondeja recently tried to make utf8parse optional. It would be useful to know how useful this functionality is.

Research direction

Start by reading the linked vte discussion and rust-cli/anstyle pull request #219. Determine how useful utf8parse is, whether it should be re-hosted under the vte or rust-cli organization, or whether an alternative should be used. Done means the maintenance direction and dependency plan are agreed and documented.
