Description

Description

I have deployed workbench with a license in kubernetes, and we have a firewall with explicit allowlists.

When installing extensions in both IDEs, it fails due to this firewall:

2026-01-20 15:29:55.883 [error] [Window] Client network socket disconnected before secure TLS connection was established: Error: Client network socket disconnected before secure TLS connection was established

None of these logs provide any insight into which sites to whitelist to allow extension installation either.

Somehow VSCode allows actually browsing the extensions, but fails to install, whereas positron only ever shows existing extensions and recommends updating them?

Research direction

No documentation file or test is identified in the issue. Start by reviewing the Helm repository's existing documentation for VSCode and Positron extension installation, then verify the required allowlisted sites and document them with enough context for firewall administrators; done means both IDEs have clear installation guidance.
