Description

Running rr with Ubuntu 4.15.0-21-generic

[FATAL /build/rr-ViolGa/rr-5.1.0/src/Monkeypatcher.cc:582:patch_after_exec_archrr::X86Arch()] Failed to monkeypatch vdso: your __kernel_vsyscall() wasn't recognized.
Syscall buffering is now effectively disabled. If you're OK with
running rr without syscallbuf, then run the recorder passing the
--no-syscall-buffer arg.
If you're not OK with that, file an issue.

Research direction

Start in src/Monkeypatcher.cc at line 582, where patch_after_exec_arch reports that __kernel_vsyscall() was not recognized. Compare the behavior with related issue #1627 and investigate it on Ubuntu with kernel 4.15.0-21-generic. Done means rr can recognize and monkeypatch the VDSO without disabling syscall buffering.
