Description

Research direction

Start by locating the preprocessor API and the code that consumes its defines list. Compare the current NAME VALUE string form with the proposed string-or-tuple form, then clarify compatibility and validation expectations. Done means the revised API behavior and its supported input forms are defined and tested.
