Description
The .htpasswd auth is difficult to scale or manage beyond a few users. Supporting LDAP would allow for large number of users in both *nix and Windows environments.

Research direction
No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the existing .htpasswd authentication path in the rest-server code, then determine the required LDAP configuration and behavior for both *nix and Windows environments. Done means LDAP authentication supports large user sets without relying on .htpasswd.
