Research direction
Start by reviewing how the extension currently packages and locates its binaries, then trace the runtime entry points that invoke them. Investigate requirements for downloading binaries and reusing binaries found on PATH; done means a decided, documented approach with its platform, versioning, and failure-handling implications.
