Description
We are using a react component through a web-component inspired by the snippet in docs.
We stumbled over an issue after which we noticed that the component is never unmounted.
We added a disconnectedCallback like this
disconnectedCallback() {
ReactDOM.unmountComponentAtNode(this)
}
I could make a quick PR adding that if you folks think that makes sense!

Research direction
Start with the web-components tutorial linked in the issue, especially the example showing React used inside a custom element. Update the example to document cleanup when the element is disconnected, using the callback and unmount API described in the issue. Done means the tutorial clearly covers unmounting and the example remains valid.
