Research direction

No source files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the failure with Wayland enabled, a Raspberry Pi 4, an H.265 MP4, and cvlc after granting video-group access; compare it with Wayland disabled and collect the missing crash logs. Done means the reported segfault is isolated and fixed or narrowed to a specific component.

Description

Describe the bug

Hello all. I have some h265 HVEC encoded mp4 files. VLC attempted software decoding and that didn't go well. I discovered via cvlc that newly created users are not part of the video group. This means I can't write to the dev nodes video or media. Once I added my user, I tried cvlc and it produced a segfault. I turned off wayland and it worked beautifully.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Enable wayland, add user to video group, play an h265 file via cvlc. This will segfault.

Device (s)
