`stepper` doesn't display whole term... unless I *narrow* its box?

I can't reproduce this reliably with all terms but, observe the far right term:
It's cut off for some reason. But if I narrow the box, then it display correctly. Doesn't work if I expand the box:

Research direction
Start by locating the stepper UI and reproducing the screenshots with the same term and box-width changes. Inspect why the far-right term is clipped at the wider width. Done means the whole term remains visible when the box is expanded as well as narrowed, with the behavior checked at both widths.
