Description

Describe the bug

Sometimes getting:

stream error: rpc error: code = Internal desc = Internal error: `Postcard error: Found a varint that didn't terminate. Is the usize too big for this platform?`.

when querying my searcher node via jaeger-query.

This doesn't happen all the time and seems to work most of the time on subsequent attempts.

Steps to reproduce (if applicable)

  1. "Find traces" using jaeger-query

Expected behavior

Not getting an error

Configuration:

  • Quickwit 0.6.4
  • Jaeger 1.50
  • Backblaze B2 for storage

Research direction

Reproduce the intermittent failure by querying a searcher node through jaeger-query with Quickwit 0.6.4, Jaeger 1.50, and Backblaze B2 storage. Investigate the Postcard decoding error and verify that Find traces completes without the stream or varint error.
