Description

it is fairly easy to hit the limit of file descriptors (default to 1024 on OS) when using partitioning.

The error message is reasonably clear, but could we do better?
Add information in the documentation at least? Recommend raising the limit?
Sniffing the limit and alerting on startup?

Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing documentation and the partitioning error path related to file-descriptor limits. Clarify whether the accepted outcome is documentation guidance, startup detection, or improved alerting, then define how the chosen behavior will be verified.
