Research direction

Start by locating the Displays plugin and reviewing how it currently obtains and presents monitor resolutions. Investigate the OS API calls needed for Retina-aware 1x and 2x resolution switching. Done means the plugin can switch between those modes without requiring a separate application.

Description

Feature Request

I often find myself needing to switch my monitor resolution between 1x and 2x, but the Displays plugin can't handle that. I looked into how to get the proper resolutions for the OS using updated API calls, and it wasn't straightforward enough for me to figure it out completely. Filing this bug just to make a note that I care about this. :-)

(For the time being, I'm using http://www.resolutiontab.com/ . It works well, but my menu is already crowded, and a separate app is overkill. I'd love to use Quicksilver for this.)
