Description
Bug description
This is a visual editor issue that manifests in RStudio Server and RStudio Pro (Workbench) when using certain versions of Safari. Please see https://github.com/rstudio/rstudio/issues/16388.
Steps to reproduce
https://github.com/rstudio/rstudio/issues/16388 has details. Be sure to type longer strings after each bullet or number (20+ characters, give-or-take).
I was able to repro today in Safari 26.0.1 on macOS 15.6.1.
Actual behavior
Bullets / numbers sometimes vanish and reappear as you are typing.
Expected behavior
No magic tricks from bullets or numbers.
Your environment
- IDE: RStudio Server or Workbench 2025.09.0+384.pro1
- macOS using Safari

Research direction
Start by reviewing the linked RStudio issue and reproducing the visual editor behavior in Safari with 20+ characters after each bullet or number. Then trace the Quarto visual editor's Safari-specific input or rendering path. Done means bullets and numbers remain visible while typing in the stated Safari environment.
