Description
There are some excessive get_proper_type() calls in mypy/server/*.py, that result in verbose error messages for recursive types. We should clean those up.

Research direction
Start by searching the get_proper_type() calls under mypy/server/*.py and trace how they affect error formatting for recursive types. Compare the resulting diagnostics before and after cleanup; done means unnecessary calls are removed without changing intended type-checking behavior or producing verbose recursive-type messages.
