Description

We can't reasonably support all potential use cases for singledispatch. This can cause user confusion. Document what works what doesn't, and explain how to use singledispatch effectively.

https://github.com/python/mypy/issues/11727#issuecomment-993150228 has some relevant context.

We may want to address at least #11734 before mentioning singledispatch in the documentation.

Research direction

Start by reading the context in issue #11727's linked comment and review issue #11734 before deciding what documentation can promise about singledispatch. Identify supported and unsupported use cases, explain effective usage, and update the relevant mypy documentation; done means the guidance reflects the resolved behavior without overstating support.
