Description

Feature or enhancement

Proposal:

the audio versions of these containers are already supported

https://github.com/python/cpython/blob/4b63cd170e5dd840bffc80922f09f2d69932ff5c/Lib/mimetypes.py#L527-L530

the video versions should be too. They are already registered with IANA here: https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/media-types.xhtml

Has this already been discussed elsewhere?

This is a minor feature, which does not need previous discussion elsewhere

Research direction

Start in Lib/mimetypes.py at the referenced lines 527-530, where the audio container MIME types are registered. Add the corresponding video types and verify that both video/3gpp and video/3gpp2 are recognized, using the existing issue 87160 change as context.
