Research direction

Reproduce the report with cherry_picker 630cd37bfae0fc4021d9e9461b94d36e7ce6b95c 3.14, resolve any conflict, and run --continue. Trace the handling of the commit title and description when the title is long; done means manual backports retain the intended formatting after continuation.
