Description
I think this would be fun to explore, once we have nothing better to do:
Once a mildly sane (platform-specific) implementation exists, it shouldn't be too hard to extend wrap_file or open_file appropriately.

Research direction
Start by reading the linked LWN article and the discussion in python-trio/trio#20, then inspect the existing wrap_file and open_file entry points. A complete effort would provide a mildly sane platform-specific native asynchronous file I/O implementation and extend one of those interfaces appropriately.
