Description

I run this:

def temp()
  result = pytest.main(params, [self.test_plugins])

with future:
self.future = self.executor.submit(temp, details.to_list())

I can't stop the future in middle of test run.
I can cancel the run when using Process, but then I can't use xdist hooks.

Please help

Research direction

Start by reviewing the reported pytest.main(params, [self.test_plugins]) call when submitted through executor.submit, and compare it with the Process-based approach. Investigate how cancellation interacts with an in-progress test run and xdist hooks. Done means the issue has a documented, reproducible approach or a clearly scoped implementation path for stopping the run while retaining xdist hooks.
