Description
I looks like using xdist will update the cache of failed items, but using --lf then re-runs all tests.
I've asked in IRC (since I am not sure if this could/should be supported already), and @RonnyPfannschmidt asked me to create this issue.

Research direction
Reproduce the reported behavior by running the test suite with xdist and then using --lf; start by tracing how distributed runs update pytest's failed-item cache. Done means --lf reruns only the relevant failed tests after an xdist run, rather than all tests.
