Description
In some cases with c extensions, pytest-timeout cannot halt tests from the slaves. pytest-xdist should add a hook so that pytest can timeout nodes from the master if the slave is unable to kill itself.

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by tracing how pytest-timeout handles slave processes and how pytest-xdist communicates between the master and slaves; done means a master-side hook can time out nodes when a slave cannot terminate itself, including cases involving C extensions.
